About Historic Salem

For over 80 years, Historic Salem, Inc. (HSI) has championed the preservation of Salem’s architecture and history. Founded in 1944 to save the Corwin House (Witch House) from demolition, HSI is one of America’s oldest civic architectural preservation organizations. Over our history, we have helped establish local historic districts, protect landmark buildings, and foster civic appreciation for Salem’s built landscape. Through advocacy, education, and community engagement, HSI strives to ensure that Salem’s future remains deeply connected to its past.
